Malaria, deficient nutrition, water born parasites, and poor sanitary practices compromise the health of many girls, and their families, in Senegal. Studies show that poor health harms school performance and weakens the emotional well-being of children and youths. Health education is not part of the standard public school curriculum in Senegal because of limited resources. ELEVEate provides the resources needed for health care professionals to empower girls with the knowledge needed to make decisions that promote their physical and emotional well-being, in the Kaolack public schools and the Kaolack Summer School for Girls.
