Allyson Goldsmith, Executive Director



Allyson Goldsmith is the Campaigns Manager for GlobalSolutions.org, a groundbreaking online movement that advocates for the U.S. to take a responsible and cooperative role in the world. Allyson holds both a Master of Public Administration and a Master of Arts in International Relations from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. Her undergraduate degree is from Brandeis University where she majored in Sociology, with a minor in both Political Science and International and Global Studies. Allyson is committed to reducing extreme poverty in the developing world. This led her to volunteer as the Food Security Campaign Coordinator for Americans for Informed Democracy. At Brandeis University she was Executive Director of Positive Foundations and Vice President of ONE Brandeis, organizations dedicated to sustainable international development. Allyson lives in Washington D.C. and enjoys the amenities of the city.

Arthur H. Goldsmith, Chief Financial Officer



Arthur H. Goldsmith is Jackson T. Stephens Professor of Economics at Washington and Lee University. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois and has served on the faculty at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University of Connecticut in Storrs, and Bond University – Gold Coast Australia. Art leads courses and conducts research on social issues, including education and poverty. He is a past Vice President of the Southern Economics Association and is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Socio-Economics and the Journal of Economic Psychology. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Healthy Foods Cooperative in Lexington, Virginia and served for many years on the Board of Directors of the Montessori School in Lexington, Virginia.

Jan Kaufman, Secretary



Jan Kaufman is the Director of Health Promotion at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. She holds a Master's Degree in Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has an interest in helping people achieve optimal health and well-being. Jan currently serves on the Board of the Rockbridge Prevention Coalition and Rockbridge 20/20 which seeks to set strategies to provide access to health care to all citizens and to improve the health status of county residents. She is active in civic affairs and has served as co-president of the Board of Fine Arts in Rockbridge, and on the advisory board of the Virginia Tobacco Settlement grants. Jan’s hobby is to design jewelry and donates all of the proceeds from her sales.

Mohamed Kamara, Associate Professor at Washington and Lee University

Mohamed Kamara



Mohamed Kamara is an Associate Professor of French, and Interim Program Head for African-American Studies at Washington and Lee University. He holds a Ph.D. in French from Tulane University, and received his BA from Fourah Bay College in Freetown, Sierra Leone. He teaches African literatures as well as courses on French and Francophone literature. His varied research interests include; Eighteenth Century French literature by women, the literature of Sierra Leone, the history of French colonial education, and literary representations of the African bourgeoisie. He lives in Lexington Virginia with his two children.
 
 

Leslie Alan Goldsmith, Board Member



Leslie Alan Goldsmith is a graduate of the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He also holds a Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology from the University of Rhode Island. His undergraduate degree is from the University of Miami in Coral Gables Florida where he earned a B.S. in Biology. For over two decades he worked for Johnson and Johnson. He was Vice President of Product Safety and Regulatory Affairs for McNeil Nutritionals, one of the many organizations that comprise the Johnson and Johnson Family of Companies. Les is retired and lives on a farm in Round Hill Virginia. He is active in civic affairs and serves on the Parents Board for the University of Miami.
